LIUF’s Top 10 personalities of the year

By Femi Mohammed

Its less than 24 hours to the new year 2016 and we are about to leave an eventful 2015 behind us. It is therefore noteworthy that we recognize a few personalities that broke out and owned the year in Nigeria both in the entertainment sector as well as other sectors politics included. Here’s our little list of outstanding personalities of the year:

  1. President Muhammad Buhari: A never-say-die spirit always gets rewarded. That’s definitely the case of Nigeria’s number 1 citizen President Muhammad Buhari who finally got elected into office at the 4th time of asking after failed attempts in 2003, 2007 as well as in 2011. We hope 2016 marks a fantastic year for Nigeria’s economy under his administration.
  2. Goodluck Jonathan: The immediate past president of the nation made his mark in history when he placed a phone call to his opponent Muhammad Buhari to congratulate him on his victory at the polls even before the results were announced. That move definitely won him millions of admirers as he broke a social media record on his birthday by getting the highest ever number of birthday wishes. A pretty noble man in his own rights.
  3. Linda Ikeji: The 35 year old blogger definitely wowed a couple of Nigerians when she acquired a mansion worth an estimated N600m on the highbrow Banana Island in Lagos State. She got even more plaudits when she used her story as a motivation for young ladies stating that she’d never slept with anyone to become who she is today. Kudos Linda.
  4. Golden Eaglets: The young lads did the nation proud once more by winning the World Championship for a record 5th time. If only their elder brothers (the Super Eagles) can take a few pointers from them.
  5. Uzodinma Iweala: The son of former Minister of Finance Okonjo Iweala had his book Beasts of No Nation made into a motion picture and it featured British-American Hollywood actor Idris Elba.
  6. Mo Abudu: The EbonyLife TV founder delved into movie production and the result was a Hollywood-standard flick “Fifty” that tells the story of 4 Lagos women in their prime. The movie features Nse Ekpe-Etim, Dakore Akande, Omoni Oboli and Iretiola Doyle. Its premiere at the Eko Hotels and Suites was also a revelation.
  7. Falz the bahd guy: The son of popular Nigerian lawyer Femi Falana really came into his own in 2015 and after entertaining Nigerians with singles Ello Bae, Karashika and various hilarious skits, he dropped a bombshell of an album “Stories That Touch” that has been garnering positive reviews. 2016 can only get better for the enigmatic rapper.
  8. Kiss Daniel: An artiste who came into the music single with his hit single “Woju” in 2014, he only gained himself more fans and admirers in 2015 with further hit singles “Laye”, “Woju” remix, the much-loved “Raba” with label mate SugarBoy and more recently “Good Time”. The fresh-faced Kiss Daniel can definitely only get better.
  9. Adekunle Gold: His “Sade” cover to boyband One Direction’s “Story of my life” put him in the public eye and before we could say Jack Robinson, YBNL had him signed up and then he released the hit love single “Orente” as well as “Pick Up” recently. His music style and originality has won him lots and lots of fans and he is definitely one to look out for in 2016.
  10. Wizkid: The starboy showed everyone why he remains arguably Nigeria’s biggest exports at the moment with collaborations with American rapper Drake as well as RnB legend R.Kelly. He also got a Glo endorsement for his contributions to the ever-growing Nigerian music Industry. Kudos Wizzy.

Happy New Year in advance everyone!!
