LIUF’s Top 5 Lagos events of 2015

By Femi Mohammed

As a part of a review of a pretty eventful 2015, we have decided to put up a top 5 countdown of events publicized on this website, that rocked the megacity. They are just 5 events among numerous fantastic events that took place this year and were talked about before and after they had taken place. Here are the events that crept into our countdown:

5. Lord Of The Ribs (BasketMouth): The Comedy Central-backed event went down at the Eko Hotels and Suites on the 4th October and the ace comedian didn’t fail to deliver as always. This year’s edition included a  line-up of Nigerian and international comedians including Basketmouth himself, and guest comedians Robert Powell (USA), Griff (USA), Buchi (Nigeria), Bovi (Nigeria), Okey Bakassi (Nigeria), Ndumiso Lindi (SA), David Kau (SA) and Salvador (Uganda) as well as musical performances from Nigeria’s finest artistes like Wizkid, Davido and a whole lot more

4. Access Mavin Concert: The first of its kind by Don Dorobucci and his charges definitely left tongues wagging both before and after the event. Its Eko Atlantic venue choice also did justice to the event and the artistes didn’t fail to turn up with their performances either with superstars like Wizkid and PSquare also getting in the groove. A great start for a first-time event and it definitely can only get better. Kudos to the Mavin Crew.

3. Fifty Premiere: Talk about the classiest event in 2015. The “Fifty” movie by Mo Abudu of ELTV held its highly-anticipated premiere on the 13th of December at the Convention Centre of the Eko Hotels. It attracted the high and mighty of the nation and it was a perfect depiction of glitz and glamour. The movie that tells the stories of four stunning Lagos women played by Dakore Akande, Nse Ekpe-Etim, Omoni Oboli and Iretiola Doyle also garnered positive reviews and therefore made the event a perfect one.

2. Rhythm Unplugged: Much was expected when Flytime Entertainment and Pepsi announced that Mr “Steal-Your-Girl” Tremaine Neverson aka Trey Songz was going to be headlining this year’s edition of  Rhythm Unplugged, and yes, arguably a whole lot more was delivered. Ranging from the hosting by Nigeria’s top comedians BasketMouth and Bovi to the musical performances by the artistes that included P Square, Wizkid, Davido as well as Trey Songz himself, it was an exciting event from start to finish and it deserves its spot as our No 2 event of the year. The only event that was massive enough to pip Rhythm Unplugged to the No 1 position is……………………..

1. 2face’s Fortyfied: The 40th birthday of music legend Innocent “2face” Idibia stands as LIUF’s biggest event of the year 2015. The All-Star 2Face Idibia FORTYfied Concert was everything we thought it would be and so much more. Having Nigeria’s biggest artistes at an event all at once is a rarity and one of those rarities happened to be at the Fortyfied Concert where the high and mighty of the Entertainment Industry turned up for one of Nigeria’s biggest-ever imports. This event is worth its weight in gold and rightly deserves its place as our biggest event of the year 2015.
