The Lunchbox palaver

Oghenefego Ofili
In recent times I have observed with keen interest how fortunate kids these days are. They are so blessed; sometimes I wonder how we survived without some of the blessings at their disposal now.
Let’s talk about the lunch pack for example. These days any parent who sends their child to school without a lunch pack is considered uncaring, insensitive, careless, etc. In those days, which some people refer to as ‘the good old days’, having a lunch pack was rare. Just wait!

Yeah! You disagree? I know you were one of the ‘ajebutters’ of your time, abi you schooled in London. No vex. I am talking about the majority here, not the minority. In fact, that a child was registered in a school, had uniforms, books and sandals; was a testimony already. So the lunch pack matter did not even come up.

In those days there were so many fruit bearing trees around the school compound. All you needed to do was pluck mangoes, oranges or pawpaw if you were hungry before you got home from school. These days, there is no space for playground let alone planting fruit bearing trees. “Please bring your lunch pack from home.”

I do not know which is better; I guess they both have their advantages. What do y’all think? Our fruits of yesteryears or their fancy lunchboxes filled with shawarma, club sandwiches, burger and the likes
