Drogba reveal 2012 Champions League triumph secrets

Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba has revealed Jose Bosingwa was in charge of tactics in his team’s surprise run to the Champions League final in 2012
Chelsea played Barcelona in the semifinal of the UEFA Champions league back in 2012 and were expected to lose to Pep Guardiola’s side.
Captain John Terry was sent off for a cynical foul in the second leg which forced Chelsea to play more than one hour with 10 men. The match ended 2 – 2 after goals from Lampard and Ramires cancelled out Messi and Alexis Sanchez goals.
According to Drogba, Bosingwa directed the team to play in his own way. He pushed Branislav Ivanovic to right back while he played at centre back despite his short frame.
Drogba made the revelation in his new autobiography titled ‘Commitment’. Pages in the book were published by the Daily Mail UK.
Drogba said: “The players really stepped up to take responsibility. The manager was telling Branislav Ivanovic to play centre back but Jose Bosingwa said, “No, no, I will play centre back”, and carried on to say where he thought others should play.
“I don’t care”, I remember saying. “I can play left back if necessary. We don’t need a striker. I’ll play striker and left back, whatever it takes.”
Chelsea were then managed by Roberto Di Matteo after former coach Andre Villas Boas was sacked in February of 2012 due to players discontent and poor results.
Chelsea made it to the final of the tournament and face a mighty Bayern Munich. Chelsea played a defensive game and almost lost the final after trailing Bayern 1 – 0 to Thomas Muller’s goal until the 88th minute when Drogba scored a header to level the scores and push the game into extra time.
Drogba said of Bayern’s goal: “As I replaced the ball on the centre spot for the re-start, I was just saying “No, no, no!” But Juan Mata, all of 24 years old, was the one to urge me on. “No, Didier”, he said, “you have to believe, you have to believe.”
Drogba said he could hear David Luiz telling Schweinsteiger before he levelled from a corner kick: “Just watch, we’re going to score now.”
The striker also revealed how he forced Arjen Robben to lose a penalty in extra time.
Drogba said: “Arjen, you’re a Chelsea player, you can’t do this! Don’t do it! Anyway, we’ll know where you’re going to shoot.”
Arjen Robben missed his spot-kick and Chelsea went on to win it on penalties. He said: “We got inside his head, definitely, because his kick was weak – definitely weaker than it would normally have been – and Petr saved it.”
Chelsea are currently 16th on the premier league table after twelve games. The team has eleven points and sit just three points above the relegation zone.
They welcome Norwich City to Stamford Bridge in their next premier league game.
