Team Android or Team iOS?

When it comes to phones, the war never ends. The war seems worse amongst users than the companies. If you have ever sat with phone freaks you would wish you didn’t waste that time with them. A phone is for communication so why the war on which is better? Is it because phones are now becoming “smart”?

Android is a mobile operating system (OS) developed by Google, based on the Linux kernel. It was founded by Andy Rubin on October 2003 in Palo Alto, California but acquired in July 2005 by Google. The operating system is designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets computers. Android uses touch inputs like tapping, swiping, pinching to manipulate on-screen objects and a virtual keyboard. It has also been used in digital cameras, game consoles andregular PCs. So far, it has the largest installed base of operating systems as of 2015.

iOS(originally iPhone OS) is the mobile OS created by Apple and distributed exclusively for Apple products. Presently most of their mobile devices (iPad, iPhone and iPod touch) run on this operating system. It is also based on the concept of using multi-touch gestures.

For technology companies that require low-cost and customisable operating system for high-tech device, android is the popular choice. This is based on its open nature, which has encouraged a large community of developers. Over the years, Android OS has been improved due the numerous updates. The current update is Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which was released on 5October 2015.

For iPhone, the OS was unveiled at the MacWorld Expo and Conference in 2007. Apple provides major updates to iOS once a year via iTunes but those that had iOS 5 and later could update over the air. The latest version is iOS 9; it was released 16 September 2015.

Android manages the applications stored in the memory (RAM) to control power consumption in contrast to desktop operating system. Android Open Source Project (AOSP) is a source code, which provides an active community of enthusiasts the opportunity to develop their own version of the operating system.
Some special features on iOS operating include enabling multiple apps to perform background function at the same interval;application switcher can be activated by double clicking on the home button; the application Siri, a personal assistant and knowledge navigator, that can perform different functions like search the web, open an app and find locations directed by user spoken commands.

The grammar on the phones plenty, wow! This is just some to help you know more about the gadget you carry. Ultimately, what I see is two companies working hard to give users a system that would make their lives easier. So, with more information on the OS of your device, you have better understand on how it works and can make the most of what is at your disposal.

Have fun using your phones and go easy on the OS wars!
