EPL Week 11 Round Up – Nigerians in the English Premier League

Nigerian stars enjoyed varying fortunes in the English Premier League on Saturday as the first installment of Week 11 games took place across England.
Of the lot, Odion Ighalo was the top star as the striker made Watford history on Saturday when he scored a brace against West Ham in a Premier League clash at Vicarage Road.
With his second brace of the season, the Super Eagles striker became the highest scorer in Watford’s Premier League history with seven goals, overtaking Heidar Helguson and Hameur Bouazza, both on six goals.
Ighalo, who scored one goal in each half, has now scored seven of Watford’s 10 league goals and assisted two.
Unfortunately, Victor Moses who started the match for West Ham ended on the losing side.
Elsewhere, Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho, was handed his first English Premier League start as Manchester City played hosts to Norwich City at the Etihad Stadium.
Iheanacho was unable to get any goal even though he had some fair attempts. He was replaced by Raheem Sterling in the 54th minute of his side’s 2-1 win against the Canaries.
It was another bad day for Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi and his Chelsea teammates as they suffered a 3-1 loss at home to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
Mikel was handed a starter’s shirt but he could not help his team as they slumped to their sixth defeat of the season.
A sublime brace from Philipe Coutinho and a clinical finish from Christian Benteke secured Jurgen Klopp his first win as Liverpool boss.
It was Mikel’ fourth start this season for the Blues.
Stoke forward Osaze Odemwingie was left out of the Stoke City squad that drew goalless against Newcastle United at St James Park.
