Buhari and his ministers’ appointment brouhaha

Femi Mohammed

Tick tock, tick tock goes the clock as it winds down gradually taking September away with it. The September so many Nigerians anticipated is slowly joining the list of conquered months of the year 2015. The albums we anticipated from Wizkid, Davido, Orezi, Jesse Jagz, Iyanya and Brymo yielded just two:Iyanya’s Applaudise and Orezi’s GhenGhen. Except some magic take place in the next two days, these dudes might just have taken us for a ride.

Well, that’s by the way; my September banter really has one main target: the No. 1 citizen of Nigeria President Muhammad Buhari and his surrounding officials. It’s no longer news that since the President emerged as the leader of the most populous black nation he is yet to appoint members of his cabinet. This has even been used as ammunition by the leading opposing parties causing some to name him “Baba go-slow”.

Well, news making the rounds has it that the President has submitted his list of appointed ministers to Senator Itang yesterday in New York. Senator Itang is then due in the country at 3 pm today to hand it over to the Senate for approval. Reports from reliable sources also have it that the members of Senate cease work for the day between 2 and 3 pm, hence, today has been ruled out. One can only imagine why this business was not sorted out before the President left for the States. Was he seeking approval from the international community first?

President Buhari has constantly assured Nigerians that the ministers would emerge before the end of September. “Mr. President, September ends in 2 days o!”.

Maybe President Buhari is going to join the likes of Wizkid, Davido and Brymo in leaving us with a September of unfulfilled promises, only time (that is, the next two days) will tell.
